PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 101: LEADERSHIP
Professional Development is the result of commitment to improvement.
About Teachers Know Best
The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) was engaged by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to conduct a study on professional development for teachers to help identify needs and opportunities for improvement. To inform this research, between January and March 2014, BCG engaged more than 1,300 stakeholders— including teachers, professional development leaders in district and state education agencies, principals, professional development providers, and thought leaders—through a combination of interviews and surveys. BCG also analyzed existing reports and market data to identify the size and composition of the overall professional development market.

What are the current long-term plans?
What are your existing vision and mission statements?

REVIEW, UNDERSTAND, AND ESTABLISH ANNUAL OBJECTIVES
These are our targets and targets are not suggestions
Review the vision and the mission to fully understand what the target is and is not
Understand all possibilities, angles, roadblocks and opportunities
Become better aquainted with what we plan to accomplish this year
This is not a fly by night outfit, what will take 3 to 5 years

Not near as invasive at it sounds, it does provide the necessary framework to help you achieve maximum results.
Creating a positive culture in a school with students who require layers of support can be challenging, however, with the right training and support it can be done. How do I know? This was my challenge as a new principal to move teachers to a student coaching culture. Donovan Dock was very instrumental in helping our campus to move to a culture of collaboration and understanding our purpose as educators.
Regenia Crane, Principal, The Phoenix Academy, Mansfield Texas
Donovan and I go way back, Im the one who asked him originally to put something together for my hardship kids and he has been a presence in our school ever since. This last fall he assisted in our professional development and brought a message about loving these kids that gripped myself and our teachers. Very motivating and uplifting as he touched on the foundation of where we all need to remain in order to continue to have a maximum impact every day. Thanks Donovan Dock!
impact every day. Thanks Donovan Dock! Jennifer Mena, Counselor, Ferris Independant School District
I thought I was already a motivated educator until I attended Donovan Dock’s presentation at our school. I came away feeling pumped up and ready to take on the world. I was deeply moved by his testimony and inspired to keep my purpose in mind when I feel ready to give up. Mr Dock Truly touched us all.
